BEST Robotics is a nationwide robotics competition for public and private middle- and high-schools and homeschool groups.
Each team is given a basic kit of supplies – a few servos and motors, plywood, sheet metal, plexiglass, PVC, etc.
Each September, the year’s game is revealed. The teams are shown a game field and the scoring rules are explained. They then take their kits and have six weeks to build a remote-controlled robot to compete.
In addition to the robot competition, teams may compete for the BEST award. This award depends on robot performance, an engineering notebook the team submits, a “marketing presentation” the team gives to judges (“investors”), an information booth about the team, the website, and the team spirit.
The local competition, or “hub,” is typically in late October. Teams that advance will then go on to the regional contest, where they’ll face the other top teams from Texas and New Mexico.
